I am Professor of Electronics and Nanoengineering and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Fellow in the Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering Division of School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, UK. I am the director of Electronic Systems Design Centre and the leader of Bendable Electronics and Sensing Technologies (BEST) group.
Academic pursuits took me to several places. After schooling at Sainik School Kunjpura Karnal (India), I completed B.Tech (Electrical) from Kurukshetra University (India), M.Tech (Electrical) from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (India), and Ph.D. from Italian Institute of Technology Genoa (Italy) and University of Genoa (Italy). In past I worked at NSIT – University of Delhi (India), Italian Institute of Technology, Genoa (Italy), and Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Trento (Italy). I have held visiting positions at Universiti Teknologi Mara (Malaysia), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and University of Cambridge (UK).
My multidisciplinary research interests include Flexible and Printable Electronics, Electronic Skin, Robotic Tactile Sensing, Micro/Macroelectronics, Wearable Systems and System Integration. I have published more than 200 research articles in journals or peer reviewed conferences, 4 books (including 3 in progress) and 11 patents (including 7 submitted) and gave more than 70 keynote/invited lectures, including a TEDx talk. In 2015, I established ‘Helping Hands‘ – a student club focussing on 3D Printed Sensitive Prosthetics. I have led and worked on many national/international projects. The major projects I currently lead include: 4 EU funded Marie Curie Fellowships, 1 Royal Society funded Newton Fellowship and EPSRC Engineering Fellowship for Growth – Printable Tactile Skin and EU funded project focussing on manufacturing of electronics by printing.
I am a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE Sensors Council and Senior Member of IEEE. Currently, I am on the Editorial Boards of Scientific Reports and IEEE Sensors Journal. I was on the IEEE Transactions on Robotics and have edited 5 Special Journal Issues and organized many international workshops/special-sessions. I am a member-at-large of the IEEE Sensors Council. I was the Technical Program Co-Chair (TPC) of IEEE Sensors 2017 and also continuing in this role for IEEE Sensors 2018. I am the founding chair of IEEE Sensors Council Chapter of IEEE UKRI section.
I hold prestigious EPSRC Fellowship and received Marie Curie Fellowship and Japanese Monbusho Fellowship in past. I was awarded with University Gold Medal for First Class First Position in the University. I received 2016 IEEE Sensors Council’s Technical Achievement Award, International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAMM) Medal for the year 2016, and the 2016 Microelectronic Engineering Young Investigator Award. In 2016, I was included in the list of Scottish 40UNDER40. I received 2 best paper awards as author and 2 second best paper awards as co-author – all in different IEEE conferences.
